Having trouble with this problem. I've taken steps to find the molar masses of both carbon and hydrogen then convert both into their respective amount in grams (C=2.6117 g and H=0.6568g). I subtracted these from 5.00g to derive the amount of oxygen in grams, which I got was 1.7314g. The thing is when I divide by the lowest number (hydrogens), the oxygens do not evenly divide. I get 4 carbons, 1 hydrogen, and 2.6359 oxygens. The whole number I found to make it close to an integer was by multiplying everything by 11, but that would be too much atomic weight .
