00:01
When can conflict be good? so let's have an example.
00:06
Sometimes conflict is inevitable, and turning it into an interpersonal conflict, if handled correctly, can be the best for everybody involved.
00:15
An example would be imagine you have an employee who is extremely important to your operation.
00:21
You really need them, but they're starting to have some kinds of financial difficulty.
00:25
Perhaps a new child in a family, perhaps increasing cost of living.
00:29
And they feel that they are not being paid enough to support their lifestyle.
00:34
Then they may come into conflict with you where they demand better pay.
00:39
So an example would be employee demands better pay.
00:54
So there are ways that this conflict could be totally avoided.
00:57
They could just not tell you, not demand better pay and get a different job.
01:01
But that would be awful for you because this is a very important employee.
01:05
So coming into conflict with them and negotiating with them, is the best possible outcome because your employee can have enough money that they can support their new child or deal with cost of living increases, and you get to keep this employee, you don't have to get a new one, train a new one.
01:23
And so in this case, it's best if they do come into conflict, because sometimes these issues are inevitable, and you want to be able to deal them as best as possible for everybody's benefit.
01:37
And if you don't do a good job at this particular conflict, then they might leave and get a different job.
01:45
Are you a good negotiator? well, let's look at some characteristics of a good negotiator...
