Question

1) Given the conversion units in the table: 1 kilometer = 1000 meters 1 yard = 0.914 meters 1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 gallon = 3.79 liters Convert the following, rounding to the nearest tenth: i. 15.5 gallons to quarts (1 point) Answer: ______________quarts ii. 24.2 pounds to kilograms (2 points) Answer: ______________kilograms iii. 2.3 kilometers to yards (3 points) Answer: ______________yards 2) (6 points) It is estimated that a driver takes, on average, 2 seconds from seeing an obstacle to reacting by swerving or applying the brakes to stop. How far will a car, moving at 45 miles per hour, travel (in feet) before a driver reacts to an obstacle? Round the distance to one decimal place. (Hint: 1 mile = 5280 feet) Answer: _________________feet

two-step-conversions-within-the-metric-svstem-it-is-useful-to-convert-into-the-base-unit-first-example-how-many-centimeters-are-in-0-5-kilometers-complete-the-unit-map-remember-t0-convert-to-13646

Two-step conversions within the metric system: it is useful to convert into the base unit first. 9. Example: How many centimeters are in 0.5 kilometers? a. Complete the unit map (remember to convert to the base unit first): km → m → cm b. Perform the calculation, showing all work: 0.5 km x (10^3 m / 1 km) x (1 cm / 10^-2 m) = 0.5 x 10^(3+2) cm = 5 x 10^4 cm (or 50,000 cm) 10. How many milligrams are equal to 0.055 kg? 11. Convert 2.5 mL to µL. 12. Convert 2.19 cm to micrometers. More Conversions – use these relationships to solve the following problems. • 12 inches = 1 foot • 1 inch = 2.540 centimeters • 1 pound (lb) = 454 grams • 1 quart (qt) = 0.946 Liters • 1 mile (mi) = 5280 feet (ft) • 1 quart = 2 pints (pt) • 4 quarts = 1 gallon (gal) • 1 ounce (oz) = 28.35 grams • 1 calorie (cal) = 4.184 Joules (J) • 1 ton = 2000 lb • 760 mm Hg = 1.00 atmospheres (atm) • 1 mL = 1 cm^3 13. Convert 0.0032 gallons to Liters. 14. Convert 4.1 J to cal.

Part 4: Practice with Unit Conversions/Dimensional Analysis Use the conversion factors below to do some unit conversions. Make sure to show your work. The ones in bold are conversion factors that are written on your Chem 2A formula sheet. You will be given this sheet to use during exams. 1 in = 2.54 cm (exact) 1 mi = 5280 ft 1 gal = 3.785 L 1000 mL = 1 L 1 mL = 1 cm³ 1 lb = 453.59 g 100 cm = 1 m Here are a couple of example problems: Question: Convert 25.0 inches into centimeters. Map: in → cm. Answer: 25.0 in x (2.54 cm / 1 in) = 63.5 cm Question: Convert 5.2x10⁶ inches into miles: Map: in → ft → mi Answer: 5.2x10⁶ in x (1 ft / 12 in) x (1 mile / 5280 ft) = 82 mi Question: How many gallons are equivalent to 865 cubic centimeters? Map: cm³ → mL → L → gal Answer: 865 cm³ x (1 mL / 1 cm³) x (1 L / 1000 mL) x (1 gal / 3.785 L) = 0.229 gal 21. How many milliliters (mL) are in 43.2 gallons (gal)? Map: Answer: 22. What is the length of a 10.0 km race in centimeters? Map: Answer: 23. Convert 0.045 pounds into milligrams. Map: lb → g → mg Answer: 0.045 lb (453.59 g / 1 lb) x (1000 mg / 1 g) = 2.0 x 10⁴ mg

00:01 This question wants us to do some conversions so the first one gallons to quarts so right here we see that one gallon equals four quarts so i'm going to set up a fraction so one gallon to four quarts equals fifteen point five gallons over how many quarts? that's the question so now if we cross multiply it'll be x times one so just x equals and then if i cross multiply this way it's going to be fifteen point five times four is sixty two so sixty two quarts okay pounds and kilograms so kilograms to pounds is right here so one kg over two point two pounds equals how many kilograms? don't know over twenty four point two pounds okay so this time when i cross multiply it's going to be two point two x equals and then twenty four point two times one so twenty four point two so this time we're going to divide so twenty four point two divided by two point two is eleven so eleven kilograms last one kilometers to yards so we don't have that conversion but we have kilometers to meters and then meters to yards so if i do one kilometer over one thousand meters kilometers to one thousand meters equals and then let's do two point three kilometers so let's turn it into meters first so x meters so now if i cross multiply i get x equals and then two point three times a thousand is twenty three hundred and that is meters now i'm going to take this conversion so now i'm going to do uh.....
