1. Place 2.2 g of 4-aminophenol and 5 mL of distilled water in a 25 mL conical flask. A magnetic stirring bar is added to the flask.
2. Heat the mixture under stirring to 80 °C in a water bath.
3. Add slowly 2.5 mL of acetic anhydride with a Pasteur pipette to the mixture. Let the mixture react for 10 minutes.
Why do we add the acetic anhydride slowly in step 3?
