1. The first step in this procedure is to prepare the DILUTE STOCK SOLUTION which will be used to prepare all of the iron standards used for the calibration curve. To prepare the DILUTE STOCK SOLUTION we will dilute the COCENTRATED STOCK which contains 0.2500 g/L of pure iron. Pipet 25.00 mL of the CONCENTRATED STOCK solution into a 500 mL volumetric flask and dilute up to the mark with distilled water. Ensure to invert the flask several times to mix the solution. This solution is your DILUTE STOCK SOLUTION
2. Pipet aliquots of this dilute stock solution containing approximately 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25 mg of iron each into one 50 mL volumetric flask (i.e 0.00mg of iron in the first 50mL volumetric flask, 0.05mg of iron into the second 50mL volumetric flask etc). The first flask will be the "blank". Note: Do not fill the volumetric flasks to their lines with water at this point. These 6 solutions will be your standard solutions and are your calibration solutions. Set them aside.
