name-the-products-formed-when-the-following-reagents-add-to-1-butene-a-mathrmh_2-b-mathrmbr_2

Name the products formed when the following reagents add to 1 -butene. (a) $\mathrm{H}_{2}$ (b) $\mathrm{Br}_{2}$

Chemistry Principles and Reactions

the-product-of-an-addition-reaction-of-an-alkene-is-often-predicted-by-markovnikovs-rule-a-draw-th-4

The product of an addition reaction of an alkene is often predicted by Markovnikov's rule. (a) Draw the structure of the product of adding HBr to propene, and give the name of the product. (b) Draw the structure and give the name of the compound that results from adding $\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}$ to 2-methyl-1-butene. (c) If you add $\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}$ to 2 -methyl- 2 -butene, is the product the same or different than the product from the reaction in part (b)?

00:01 Hello students, hope you are doing great.
00:03 In this question we are given a reaction scheme and we have to write an arrow pushing mechanism for this particular reaction.
00:10 So let us start with the starting material with the mechanism of this reaction.
00:18 So here we are given an alkene which undergoes bromination.
00:26 So here we have bromine molecule.
00:30 These pi electrons will attack on this bromine atom and this bromide ion is removed from here.
00:36 After this there is a formation of three -membered ring like this.
00:43 So here we have br and there is a positive charge on this bromine.
00:48 In the next step the bromide ion which was removed from in the first step will attack on this carbon atom.
00:54 This bond will be broken and the electrons will move to bromine so that the positive charge on the bromine is stabilized.
01:00 Doing so we have here the formation of dibromo compound.
01:11 So here we have bromine, here we have bromine.
01:15 We also know that there are hydrogen present over here.
01:18 In the next step there is reaction with base...
