1 9 m Pump 2 A pump installation is required to take water from a large open reservoir and deliver it at a pressure of 25 kN/m" gauge and a flowrate of 7500 kg/min to a location 9 m above the reservoir (as shown in the diagram). The pipeline is 0.2 m in diameter and has a total length of 140 m. Ignore losses at pipe entry and exit points, ignore losses due to the pump itself and ignore losses due to the connections in the pipe. Assuming a friction factor of 0.032 in the pipe, calculate the head (work output expressed in meters) required from the pump.

Step 1
Calculate the discharge rate at the pump outlet by using Bernoulli's equation: Q = (P/Ļ)xA where Q is the discharge rate in kg/s, P is the pump power in watts, Ļ is the density of water in kg/m3, and A is the pump area in m2. In this case, Q = 7500 kg/min. Show moreā¦

A 280 km long pipeline connects two pumping stations. It is desired to pump 0.56 m^3/s of oil through a 0.62 m diameter line. The discharge station is 250 m lower in elevation than the upstream station, and the discharge pressure is to be maintained at 300 kPa. The oil has a dynamic viscosity of 3.645 x 10^-3 Pa·s and a density of 810 kg/m^3. The pipe is constructed of commercial steel, and the inlet pressure may be taken as 1 atmosphere. Considering the mechanical-energy friction loss Ff, determine the power required to pump the oil if the power efficiency is 70%. Develop a sketch of the piping system considered. Ignore energy losses due to contraction, expansion & 90° bends!!!

A centrifugal pump delivers 227 m^3/hr of water from a source 4 meters below the pump center line to a pressure tank whose pressure is 2.8 kg/cm^2. Friction loss estimates are 2 meters in the suction line and 1 meter in the discharge line. The diameter of the suction pipe is 250 mm and the discharge pipe is 200 mm. Find: a) The water horsepower b) The kW rating of the driving motor if the pump efficiency is 70%
