Factoring Trinomials of the Form x^2 + bx + c

being asked to factor x squared minus x minus 90. There is a implied one right here, technically it is -1. Um so when you're factoring, you want two numbers who multiply, so the product is negative 90 But the same two numbers also have to add, they have to have a sum of -1. So, because there's a limited number of factors of 90, I would go with that. And once you find the two numbers at work, um there's more factors I'm just going to jump to the ones that work is 10 times nine. Um Yeah, and the only way to make this negative 90 is if one of these numbers is negative, but if I go to add those together, what ends up happening is I get positive 1, 10 plus 99 but it's an easy fix because what I can do is just negate each one because now you have 10 times nine is still negative 19 and negative 10 plus nine is now negative one. So to write are factored form uh the opposite of the distributive property, it makes sense that X times X is X squared and it doesn't matter what you write first. Just that the 10 is negative and that the nine is positive. Um and that's the right answer. You can check it by distributing everything and you'll get back to the original. So this is right
