Apple's "facial recognition" requires the projection of more than 30,000 infrared dots over the facial area. To generate such a large number of light dots from a small form-factor, Apple adopted two important technologies. One is the adoption of DoE (diffractive optical elements), which multiplies the number of dots. The other is related to the light source technology and also to the "Laser" section we studied.
