Planck's Law
Consider Planck's Law for an ideal black body, shown at right:
You have a microwave radiometer that measures Brightness Temperature at a microwave frequency of 1 GHz = 1x10^9 Hz.
h - Planck constant = 6.626x10^-34 J·s
kB - Boltzmann constant = 1.381x10^-23 J/K
c - the speed of light = 3.0x10^8 m/s
(a) As measured by the radiometer, what is the brightness temperature of a black body at a physical temperature of 300 K?
(b) Consider that while scanning the target in (a), the radiometer measures an area with brightness temperature of 260 K. What is the emissivity of the observed area?
