1. A solution of saltwater can be described as a homogeneous mixture. 2. A solution is made of two components, a solute that is present in a much smaller amount than the solvent. 3. When a small amount of table salt is dissolved in water to make a solution, we say the water is the solvent, and the salt is called the solute. 4. Nonpolar compounds, such as paraffin, are soluble only in nonpolar solvents. 5. When a solution is heated to make more of a solute dissolve in a solvent, we say the solution is supersaturated. 6. A substance that breaks up into ions when dissolved in water will conduct electricity and is therefore called an electrolyte solution. 7. When sugar dissolves in water, the individual molecules are hydrated but do not break up into ions. The resulting solution will not conduct electricity. 8.
