(5%) Problem 3: Individual free quarks are never observed in nature. Quarks and/or antiquarks are bound together by the strong nuclear force into particles known as hadrons. The antiparticle of a hadron is also a hadron. 33% Part (a) The antiparticle of a baryon is a(n) 33% Part (b) The antiparticle of an antibaryon is a(n) 33% Part (c) The antiparticle of a meson is a(n) antibaryon. quark. photon. meson. antiquark. baryon.

The question is asking us to identify the antiparticles of different types of hadrons. Remember, hadrons are particles made up of quarks and/or antiquarks, bound together by the strong nuclear force. There are two main types of hadrons: baryons, which are made of Show more…

The lambda particle $\Lambda^{0}$ has an electric charge of zero. It is a baryon and, hence, is composed of three quarks. They are all different. One of these quarks is the up quark $u$ , and there no antiquarks present. Make a list of the three possibilitities for the quarks contained in $\Lambda^{0}$ . (Other information is needed to decide which one of these possibilities is the actual $\Lambda^{0}$ particle.)
