Subtractions by 2's Complement
The algorithm to subtract two binary numbers using 2's complement is explained as follows:
1. Take the 2's complement of the subtrahend.
2. Add it to the minuend.
3. If the result of the above addition has a carry bit of 1, then drop the carry bit and the result will be a positive number.
4. If there is no carry bit of 1, then take the 2's complement of the result, which will be a negative number.
Note that the subtrahend is the number that is to be subtracted from another number, i.e., the minuend.
Also, note that adding an end-around carry bit occurs only in 1's complement arithmetic operations, but not in 2's complement arithmetic operations.
