The function of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal tract can be understood in the context of the endocrine system. The hypothalamus synthesizes antidiuretic hormone, while the anterior pituitary gland synthesizes thyroid stimulating hormone. The hormone required for ovulation and the formation of the corpus luteum is luteinizing hormone. The speech cortex is located in the frontal and parietal lobes of the brain. The visual cortex is located in the occipital lobe. Voluntary control of skeletal muscles is provided by the somatic nervous system. The endocrine glands located on top of the kidneys are the adrenal glands. Rhodopsin, which consists of opsin and a photosensitive pigment called retinal, is responsible for night blindness or nyctalopia.
