If an alkene contains on carbons at double bond Cl , Br and - CH2 - CH2 - OH , CH(CH3)2 , Write the E and Z configuration of it?
Adi S.
Determine the configuration of each of the following as $Z$ or $E$ as appropriate: Sample Solution (a) One of the doubly bonded carbons bears a methyl group and a hydrogen. According to the CahnIngold-Prelog sequence rules, methyl outranks hydrogen. The other carbon atom of the double bond bears a methyl and a $-\mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{OH}$ group. The $-\mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{OH}$ group is of higher priority than methyl. Higher ranked groups are on the same side of the double bond; the configuration is Z.
