Connections are valuable and Metcalf's Law tells us that the value, V, of a network is approximately equal to the square of the number, n, of people or objects connected to the network. That is, V = n^2. Apply Metcalf’s law to the following situation: Santiago is choosing between two local dating apps, one which has 5 users and the other which has 50 users. What is the value of the smaller network? What is the value of the larger network? How many times bigger is the value of the larger network than the value of the smaller network? Which app will Santiago probably choose? Aside from anything else that might distinguish the two apps, does the larger network size of the more popular dating app constitute a barrier to entry?

If $n$ gets larger and larger, the value of $\left(1+\frac{1}{n}\right)^{n}$ approaches the value of ________.
Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Base-e Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
With new technologies and new types of successful business ventures, it is common for growth to be approximately exponential. An example is the growth in the number of Internet domain hosts. One model is that the number of domain hosts grew according to the rule Next year's number = 1.36 Ă— Current number. The number of domain hosts in 1995 was 8.2 million. Find an exponential formula that gives the number of hosts in terms of the time, in years since 1995. What number of Internet domains does your formula give for 2005? Round your answer to the nearest million.
