A → B liquid phase reaction is carried out isothermally in reactors. The reaction is operated under steady flow conditions with an inlet molar flow rate of 5 mol/h. The necessary GKT and PAT volumes, as well as the design equations for the consumption of 99%, are calculated separately in terms of concentration and conversion rate. This calculation is performed for two different cases where the reaction rate expression is given below. The volumetric flow rate is constant at 10 L/h.
a) -rA = k (k = 0.05 mol/L.h)
b) -rA = k.CA^2 (k = 3 L/mol.h)
In the batch reaction vessel with a constant volume of 3 m^3 and an initial concentration of 0.5 mol/L, the time required to consume 99% of A is calculated for the above two reaction rate expressions. The design equations for the batch reactor are also determined, and the calculation is performed separately in terms of concentration and conversion rate.
