A centrifugal pump pumps water between two tanks open to the atmosphere. There is a height difference of 90 m between the upper tank and the lower tank, and there is a total loss of load (friction + local) of 15 m in the system. The blade width at the pump inlet and outlet is the same and is 0.1 m. The pump outer diameter is 500 mm, the inner diameter is 250 mm. The angle between the relative speed and rotor speed at the inlet is 20, the angle between the relative speed and the rotor at the outlet is 40°. The rotor speed is 1500 RPM and the blades are curved backwards. For the pump in which the flow enters radially, ignoring the slip effect;
a) Draw the pump inlet and outlet velocity triangles
b) Calculate the pump flow
c) Calculate the manometric efficiency
d) A similar pump will be manufactured with reference to the existing pump. It is desired that the diameter of the new pump be 25% larger and the number of revolutions 50% less compared to the existing pump. Find the flow and head values of the new pump.
