In indigenous hunter-gatherer societies, women primarily gather food, while men are responsible for big game hunting. For this reason, many evolutionary psychologists believe that females may have evolved superior object recognition and visual detection abilities (so that they can find and identify edible foods) compared with males. Denise is intrigued by this theory and decides to conduct an experiment to investigate whether females are better at finding morel mushrooms. Denise recruits 20 females aged 15 to 60 and has them search for morel mushrooms for one hour daily in a forest in Orange County, Indiana. After just one week, the females have found, on average, 1 pound of morel mushrooms each. Denise concludes that females are superior at finding morel mushrooms.
