A comet of mass m = 1x10^20 kg will hit the Earth in the plane of the equator, but off center. The comet will strike a position on the Earth in line with a trajectory that would pass by the center of the Earth at a distance of 1/2 the Radius of the Earth. The collision will hit in opposition to the rotation of the Earth (it will try to spin the Earth the opposite direction). When the comet hits the Earth, it will become part of it.
How fast must the comet be travelling to reduce the angular velocity of the earth by 1/2? (mass of Earth Me = 5.97x10^24 kg, radius of the Earth Re = 6.37x10^6 m)
