I work through this problem two different ways.

The first way i used was using a graphing calculator.

And by using a graph and calculator, i went to the stat menu and then edit and edited lists, and i put my age and years under my x and then the maintenance cost under my y.

And if you're on the graph and calculator once you've typed your data in on a ti 84 which is the most common you're going to go to stat and then calculate and then i went to option four which is linear regression a x plus b option eight will also do the same thing it just reverses the order of the slope with x and the y intercept.

Okay, the first thing you need is the correlation coefficient or the r value.

And under both of them that you are working with, you can get that.

If you're on a ti84, make sure that under mode, stats wizard is on to get the r value, which gives us an r value of 0 .972 if we round to two to three decimal places.
