Big fish: A sample of 100 flounder of a certain species have sample mean weight 22.5 grams. Scientists want to perform a hypothesis test to determine how strong the evidence is that the mean weight differs from 21 grams. State the appropriate null and alternate hypotheses. The null hypothesis is H0 : ÎĽ (Choose one) The alternate hypothesis is H1 : ÎĽ (Choose one)

'Big fish: A sample of 500 flounder of a certain species have sample mean weight 49.5 grams_ Scientists want to perform a hypothesis test to determine how strong the evidence is that the mean weight differs from 48 grams. State the appropriate null and alternate hypotheses_ The null hypothesis is H 0: u (select) The alternate hypothesis is H 1: u (select)'

Organizers of a fishing tournament have picked a large lake that they believe has a population of thousands of fish with a population mean weight of 10 lbs. One of the competitors frequently fishes in this lake. He believes the lake has been overused for tournaments and the larger fish have been removed, bringing down the average weight of fish still in the lake. The organizers agree to move the tournament if he can show that the true mean weight is significantly less than 10 lbs. He takes a random sample of 40 fish caught in a recent tournament at this lake. The sample mean weight of the fish is 8.9 lbs. The population standard deviation is 3.5 lbs. Use a significance level of 0.05 to test the claim. State the null and alternative hypotheses. Calculate the mean and standard error. Please show work. Use the calculator to find the p-value and test statistic. Please show work. What is your decision based on the p-value you found? Explain. State your conclusion in the context of the problem. Find the 90% confidence interval for the population average weight of fish still in the lake. Does this interval support your conclusion from the hypothesis test? (Hint: Look to see if 10 lbs is inside the confidence interval.)
