A mine is supplying copper sulphide concentrate to a smelter/converter complex to produce blister copper, sulphuric acid, and waste slag (35wt%FeO-65wt%SiO2). As the mining operation proceeds, the concentrate grade from the associated mineral processing plant is maintained at 25% copper, but the form of the copper changes over time from Cu2S to CuFeS2. Explain briefly the effects of this change on the smelter and converter operations, and in each case the impacts on production.
