A new conversion factor used with gases is 1 L = 22.4 mol at STP (Standard Temperature & Pressure). 22.4 moles of a gas occupies 1 liter at STP conditions, but what are STP conditions? STP is: temperature of 273 K pressure is 1 atm When the temp is 273 K & pressure is 1 atm, 22.4 moles of a gas occupies 1 liter of volume. The 1 mole occupies 22.4 L at STP conversion factor allows conversion between units of amount (moles) & units of volume (liters). This is a new conversion for CHE120.
