A pro golfer wants to determine the relationship between the club-head speed and the distance a golf ball travels. He collected the club-head speed (in miles per hour) and the distance the golf ball traveled (in yards) for eight swings of the club. He found that the data has a linear relationship, and found the following results: 8: LinReg(a+bx) \(\bullet y = a + bx\) \(\bullet a = -55.8\) \(\bullet b = 3.2\) \(\bullet r = 0.94\) Using the results above, predict the distance a golf ball will travel when the golfer hits a golf ball at a club-head speed of 103 miles per hour. Round to one decimal places (like 12.3). Remember to include the proper units. On your scratch paper: \(\circ\) Show all your work. \(\circ\) Number your scratch work with this question number.

Create a scatterplot of the data. Does a linear regression model make sense for these data? Yes/No (b) Calculate the slope. (Round your answer to four decimal places.) Calculate the y-intercept. How well do professional golfers putt from different distances? Researchers collected data on the percent of putts made for various distances to the hole (in feet). Model: ln(percent made) vs. Distance Predictor Coef SE Coef T P Constant 4.6649 0.0825 56.511 0.0000 Distance -0.1091 0.0067 -16.24 0.0000 S = 0.160 R-sq = 0.939 R-Sq (adj) = 0.936 Calculate and interpret the residual for the point where the golfers made 31% of putts from 14 feet away. Enter all calculations below accurate to at least 2 decimal places.
A group of Northeastern University researchers developed a new method for ranking the total driving performance of golfers on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) tour (Sport Journal, Winter 2007). The method requires knowing a golfer's average driving distance (yards) and driving accuracy (percent of drives that land in the fairway). The values of these two variables are used to compute a driving performance index. Data for a random sample of 40 PGA golfers are available in the Excel tab named Q1 PGADRIVER. A professional golfer is practicing his swing to increase his average driving distance. However, he is concerned that his driving accuracy will be lower. Is his concern a valid one? Use simple linear regression, where y = driving accuracy and x = driving distance, to answer the question.
