A recent study assessed the performance of the rapid dipstick test for urinary tract infections (UTIs), compared to the diagnostic gold standard urine culture in two groups of females that differed in their prior probability of UTI. Out of the 143 females who tested positive with the dipstick, 130 females actually had a positive urine culture. 20 females had a negative dipstick test, but a positive urine culture, compared to 87 females who had both a negative dipstick and negative urine culture.
What is the sensitivity of the new rapid dipstick test?
