How is fluency related to reading comprehension? Answer Fluency does not impact a student’s ability to comprehend text. Fluency is the only skill that students need to develop in order to comprehend text. Fluency and reading comprehension are indirectly related, so rather than practice fluency skills, students should learn cueing methods to improve reading comprehension. Fluency does not guarantee reading comprehension, but a lack of fluency means a lack of comprehension.
