A 6-year-old child that suffers from CP since birth has difficulty lifting their leg during walking to clear obstacles in front of them. This is often called "crouch walking". Unfortunately, the child does not have access to any type of rehabilitation clinic nor access to a specialist to be able to undergo surgery. This child can walk if there are no obstacles for them to walk over. Please answer the following questions: What phase of walking is involved with being able to clear obstacles during walking? Given that the child has a reduced range of motion, what would you observe at each joint (i.e., more knee extension, more hip extension, less ankle dorsiflexion)? If you were to work in a physical activity clinic for children with CP, what type of movement rehabilitation do you think would help to improve some of their mobility? (hint: use your previous answer to guide your answer so the range of motion can be improved).
