Calculate the bulk density of the powder DB, the porosity (pore volume per unit mass P), and the % voidage for a powder sample under the following three packing conditions. The powder has a true density of 1.15 g/cm3.
1. Condition 1: Loose packing
A 35 gram sample of the powder is poured into a 100 ml graduated cylinder (to fill the cylinder).
2. Condition 2: Moderate packing
A 35 gram sample of the powder is poured into a 100 ml graduated cylinder to fill the cylinder. The cylinder containing the loosely packed powder is tapped on the surface of the lab bench 3 times. The fill volume of the cylinder recorded is 45 ml, i.e. the packed powder goes up to the 45 ml line of the graduated cylinder.
3. Condition 3: Close packing
The cylinder containing the moderately packed powder from condition 2 is tapped on the surface of the lab bench an additional 47 times. The fill volume of the cylinder recorded is 38 ml.
