Two students collected data on random baseball player run-times. Players were required to run 50 yards and were timed in seconds (pitchers did not have to run). Assume that the distribution of each population (outfielders, infielders, catchers) is close enough to Normal to satisfy the Normal condition for using ANOVA. Test the hypothesis that different positions have different mean run-times, using a significance level of 0.05. Do not do post-hoc tests. Part 1 Write the null and alternative hypotheses. H0: At least one of the means is different, or there is no association between field position and speed. Ha: All of the means are the same, or there is an association between field position and speed. Part 2 Which of the conditions for ANOVA can be assumed to be satisfied based on the given information or can be shown to be satisfied? Select all that apply. A. equal variance B. independent groups C. Normality D. random and independent samples Part 3 The test statistic is enter your response here. (Round to two decimal places as needed.) Part 4 The p-value is enter your response here. (Round to three decimal places as needed.) Part 5 Write your conclusion. The p-value is greater than less than the significance level, do not reject reject the null hypothesis. The study indicates that speed is the same for all positions. is different for at least one position. is different for all positions. A journal published a study of the "tip-of-the-tongue" phenomenon, trying to think of a word that you know but can't instantly retrieve, in senior citizens. The researchers compared 50 people between 60 and 72 years of age with 50 between 73 and 83 years of age. When primed with the initial syllable of the missing word, the younger seniors had a higher recall rate. Suppose 32 of the 50 seniors in the younger group could recall the word when primed with the initial syllable, while only 22 of the 50 seniors in the older group could recall the word. Compare the recall rates of the two groups, using α = 0.10. Does one group of elderly people have a significantly higher recall rate than the other? Let P1 represent the recall rate of the younger group (60–72 years of age) and P2 represent the recall rate of the older group (73–83 years of age). Give the null and alternative hypotheses: Choose the correct answer below: H0: (P1 − P2) = 0 Ha: (P1 − P2) ≠ 0 Find the test statistic: The test statistic is z = (Round to two decimal places as needed.)
