Today we're going to discuss how to read box and whisper plots by looking at this data here, where the number line is showing the amount of points team a and team b has received by playing in different games.
00:15
So we're going to try to solve for how many games team a and b has played where they have received at least 55 points for each game.
00:28
So let's start with team a.
00:31
Where 55 points is this point here on the plot in this section of the box and whisker plot which is right at the end of quartile 1 so box and whisker plots are all broken up into quartiles so that means that each section is one -fourth of the total which in this case for team a is 14 games so if we look at 14 divided by 4 equals 3 .5, which for this boxing whisker plot, it means that team a did not receive 55 points until their fourth game.
01:27
So for games 1 through 3, they got less than 55 points.
01:32
So 14 minus 3 equals 11 games, that team a received 55 or more points.
01:55
So for team b, their 55 points is at the halfway mark of their box and whisper plot.
02:08
So instead of we divided by four to get rid of the first portal as we did for team a, we're actually going to divide by two because this is right at the halfway mark for team b...
