An airstream at 0 °C is flowing over a heated plate at 90 °C at a speed of 75 m/s. The plate is 45 cm long and 60 cm wide. Assuming the laminar-turbulent transition of boundary layer takes place at the critical Reynolds number of 5x10?, calculate the average heat transfer coefficient for the full length of the plate and also calculate the rate of heat transfer from the plate. Assume suitable data with proper justification, if required.

Reynolds number (Re) is given by the formula: Re = (ρ * V * L) / μ where ρ is the density of the air, V is the velocity of the air, L is the length of the plate, and μ is the dynamic viscosity of the air. We need to find the values of ρ and μ at the film Show more…

A flat plate is of planar dimension 1 m x 0.75 m. For parallel laminar flow over the plate, calculate the ratio of the average heat transfer coefficients over the entire plate (hL,1/hL,2) for two cases. In Case 1, flow is in the short direction (L = 0.75 m). In Case 2, flow is in the long direction (L = 1 m). Which orientation will result in the larger heat transfer rate? See Problem 6.5.

A heat transfer fluid, with the properties listed below, flows over a flat plate with u∞ = 3.2 m/s and T∞ = 60°C. The entire length of the plate is L = 20 cm in the flow direction, the initial Luh = 10 cm of the plate is insulated, and the remainder of the plate is maintained at Ts = 15°C. The width of the plate (perpendicular to the flow direction) is W = 10 cm. Determine the rate of heat transfer from the fluid to the plate, in W. ρ = 1004 kg/m³ ; μ = 92.35 × 10⁻³ Pa.s ; k = 0.1174 W/m.K ; Pr = 1239

Air is flowing over a flat plate at a velocity of 7 m/s with a temperature of 20 C. The plate has a width of 2 m and a length of 8 m with a temperature of 140 C. Determine the rate of heat transfer from the plate if the air flows along the 8 m side. The average temperature for the film is taken as 80 C and the properties of air at the average temperature are as follows: 2 Thermal conductivity, W/(m C) Prandtl number Kinematic viscosity, m2/s 0.0297 0.706 2.5×10-5 a-) (15 points) Determine if the flow regime is fully laminar, fully turbulent or a combined type. b-) (15 points) Determine the rate of heat transfer from the plate.
