When designing an aircraft, a space shuttle, or an automobile, it is important to make sure that all the electronic devices are protected and can safely operate under possible environmental vibrations. In this project, we look into a simple vibration isolation for an electronic device. The equipment in this project is sitting on a pad, which can be modeled as a set of four parallel viscous dampers and a set of four linear springs. The electronic device has a mass of 10 kg. We performed a frequency sweep and calculated the displacement transmissibility for this design. 1. To make sure that the equipment is safe under a certain environmental vibration, we want to modify the system such that the amplitude of vibration of the equipment is half of the amplitude of input vibrations. What should be our frequency ratio to achieve this goal? 2. If the frequency of excitation is 10 Hz and we need to reduce the amplitude of vibrations in this equipment to a quarter of the input vibrations (by changing the damping and stiffness of the system), what should be the damping constant of each damper? What is the stiffness value for each spring?
