Step 1
- Skewness: The skewness value of 1.073 indicates that the data is moderately skewed to the right. - Kurtosis: The kurtosis value of 0.908 suggests that the data is platykurtic, meaning it has thinner tails and a flatter peak compared to a normal distribution. - Show moreā¦

Evaluate skewness and kurtosis of "Ending Weight in Pounds." Does this meet or not meet normal distribution? Have any statistical assumptions been violated? Explain your answer. Describe the distribution of the data based on your visualization of the plot. Address the following questions for both tests that you ran: What level of measurement do you need to meet assumptions for a variable to be considered normally distributed? What does independence of the data mean? Did both variables meet this assumption and how?

Open the data set "Project2Data" in Minitab. You are to use inferential procedures on the data set which represents a population of one hundred female adults before going on the ketogenic diet last year. Column 1 represents their weight in lbs before starting the diet. Using Minitab, answer the following questions in Part I based on the "Weight" data in column 1. Part I. 1) Determine the mean, standard deviation, and five number summary for Weight. 2) Construct a histogram. 3) Based on the shape of the histogram, what can you say about the possible shape of the distribution of the population? If a shape cannot be determined, explain why. 4) Construct a boxplot. 5) Based on the boxplot, are there any outliers? If yes, what are they? If not, how do you know? 6) Determine the 95% confidence interval on the population data in column 1. 7) Take a random sample of 10 data values from column 1 āāWeightāā (NOT COLUMN 2). Using the sample that you selected, determine and state the sample mean. Compare the sample mean to the original confidence interval you obtained in question 6. Is the sample of 10 data values you selected a āāgood sampleāā? Explain why! Part II. Using Minitab, answer the following: Today, a personal trainer claims the mean weight has significantly gone down from last year. Last year, the mean weight from the population was 164.52 lbs. The trainer uses a random sample of 15 female adults after being on the diet for one year and determines their weight (column 2). Use a hypothesis test (t-test) to test the trainersā claim using a 5% significance level. 1) What is the value of the test statistic? 2) What is the critical value from the t-table? 3) What is the p-value? 4) Can the trainer conclude the ketogenic diet works? Explain!
