At 1328 on a warm, sunny day in July, you and your partner are dispatched to a residence for a possible drowning. As you arrive on the scene, you note that the police are already on the scene. 00:02 So anytime there is a neck injury, we know that it's going to be pretty serious.

00:07 And so in this case of the location of the c6 and c7, c standing for cervical vertebrae, and then the number of that is going to be the purple highlighted right here.

00:17 So this is where the fracture has taken place based off of the report, which is c6 is this top one.

00:25 And then right below it is c7.

00:28 So now that we know the location of where this is at, so think of on your body, right where your neck attaches to the rest of your body, it's going to be right there, right on top of where that is.

00:38 And that's a location of the injury in this case, just because location does play a role in determining how that happened.

00:45 So we know based of the information that the superior articular process of c7 and the inferior articular process of c6 were fractured.

00:56 So this is just a section of a spinal cord and we're going to, or excuse me, the spine, and we're going to use this as a reference here.

01:04 So we know that the spinal cord is protected inside this, and the spine is on the outside here.

01:09 So the superior articular process is the kind of top piece right here of one of the vertebrates, and then the inferior articular process is the bottom piece.

01:21 So let's use this piece right here as the example.

01:28 And the bottom piece is the inferior, inferior meaning below.

01:33 So if this is a case then, we know that, let's say this is the, we're going to say that this is the c6, the inferior part that is injured, and then right here below it is c7, the superior part that's fractured.
