Pressure at Depth
Figure 1 below shows a vertical column of fluid of density Ļ. The pressure at the top of the column is Po. Furthermore, located at a depth h is a plate of area A. Since this plate is sitting under the fluid, it must support the weight of the fluid on top of it plus any additional force due to the pressure Po.

It can be shown that the pressure on the plate at a depth h is given by the expression:
P(h) = Ļgh + Po
The purpose of this laboratory is to verify this last equation using a Gas Pressure Sensor to measure the pressure, a meter stick to measure h, and water as the fluid (Ļ = 1000 kg/m³).
