Part 2: Calculate the probability.
IMPORTANT: Only enter whole numbers or decimals for any numeric answers. Do NOT use fractions for any of your answers in this question.
To calculate the desired probability, we will need the following values:
• $n = 100$
• $p = 0.1$
We need to use the TI-83/84's binomcdf function to calculate the desired probability. In order to use this calculator function, we must write the desired probability in terms of the probability of the complementary event.
Thus, the probability we are asked to find,
$P(x \ge 5)$, can be expressed as
$1 - P(x \le 100)$
So we enter the following into the TI-83/84:
$1 - \text{binomcdf}(100, 0.1, 45)$
and we get our answer: $100 \times$ (rounded to 4 places after the decimal point).
