After studying the study and examining the following words and their definitions, both formal and informal examples given, write your observations of the characteristics of a definition. Do this in your English Activity Notebook:
Informal Definition
Word: Vinegar
Formal Definition: A sour liquid that is used to flavor and preserve foods or to clean things.
Observation: Vinegar looks like large condiment on fruit that pineapple.
Word: Grenade
Formal Definition: A large fruit that grows on a tropical tree and has thick skin and very sweet, juicy, yellow flesh.
Observation: Grenade is a hard, hollow symbol with bending.
Word: Bamboo
Formal Definition: A tall plant with stems that are used to make building and furniture tools, etc. It is known for its sturdiness and never breaking.
Observation: Bamboo is a favorite pet of Cleopatra.
Word: Cat
Formal Definition: A carnivorous mammal that is usually solitary and nocturnal. It has long been domesticated as a pet.
Observation: Cat is an air-conditioned room in an office building where people work at desks doing professional business activities.
