RATE OF REACTION WORSE MEET
The following statements describe factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions. Use the word bank below to complete the statements.
1. Temperature affects the energy of the particles and how quickly they increase the rate. Increasing the temperature of a system can lead to an increase in rate. It also affects the frequency with which the particles collide and how the collisions occur. The energy required for any reaction to take place is called the activation energy for that reaction.
2. Concentration is a measure of how crowded the particles are in a solution and the frequency of collisions. It changes the frequency of collision.
3. Surface area is a measure of how much solid is exposed to the reaction and therefore how many collisions take place. It changes the frequency of collision.
The presence of a catalyst speeds up a chemical reaction but is chemically unchanged. They work by lowering the activation energy for the reaction.
