RDX is mixed with polymer; the resulting polymer bonded explosive or plastic explosive is much more sensitive to initiation compared to pure RDX. RDX cannot be detonated using flame; rather it burns. Accordingly, to initiate RDX, an explosive train is used. Here primary explosive can be detonated by flame and the detonation wave from the primary explosive is able to initiate the RDX. A slapper detonator is a relatively recent kind of detonator developed in Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It is an improvement of the earlier exploding-bridgewire detonator; instead of directly coupling the shock wave from the exploding wire, the expanding plasma from an explosion of metal foil drives another thin plastic or metal foil called a "flyer" or "slapper" across the gap, and its high-velocity impact on the explosive (for example, hexanitrostilbene) then delivers the energy and shock needed to initiate detonation. Many improvised explosive devices comprise TATP. This material is very sensitive and therefore transporting the material is dangerous.
