Keep a personal growth journal where you make three separate entries per week. Be sure to discuss the challenges you face as a counselor and how you are meeting those challenges. Feel free to mention your personal and professional supports. In each entry, mention at least one success you had, regardless of how large of small in nature.
Mindful Breathing: Each day, either upon waking, sometime during the day, or prior to bedtime, spend 5-minutes in mindful breathing. Breathe slowly in through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. During this process, silently say an affirming mantra such as “I am enough,” or “I am whole,” or some other self-affirming statement. When your mind wanders, just refocus on the breath and begin repeating your mantra.
Daily Gratitude: What are three daily gratitude’s you can implement? Example: “Upon rising from bed, I acknowledge gratitude for my health, my spouse/partner, and a fulfilling career.” Now, identify three gratitude’s and acknowledge them each day. You may change the gratitude’s you acknowledge or keep the same ones.
