Determine whether the scatterplot shows any association, what direction, if it is linear or not, and how strong is the association. Choose the MOST COMPLETE ANSWER THAT IS STILL A CORRECT ANSWER. Most complete being the answer that will give the greatest description. Start with direction, then linear, then strength. A) Negative association, Linear association B) Linear association, strong association C) Positive association, non-linear association, moderately strong association D) Positive association, linear association, moderately strong association

00:01 In this question, we were asked to choose the correct words to describe the scatter plot shown here.
00:07 So the scatter plot shows for a number of observations, the value of the observation's x value and its y value.
00:16 So, for example, if we consider this observation here, for the x variable, it's 80, and for the y variable, it's something just a little bit above 80, maybe 85 or 82.
00:29 And if we look at the scatterplot, we can see an overall pattern, which is called the form of the relationship.
00:36 And it looks like a linear form.
00:39 Basically, you could draw a straight line through here, and that line would sort of represent the overall pattern of the scatterplot.
00:49 It appears to be a line.
00:50 It doesn't seem like it's some shape that curves like this or curves like this.
00:55 There's no reason to say that this is not linear.
00:58 So for the form of the relationship, we would pick linear.
01:02 For the strength of the relationship, if the relationship was very strong, then all the points plotted in the graph would be relatively close to the line.
01:13 So they would form a pretty convincing line pattern.
01:17 Maybe like these blue dots i'm showing here, that'd be a very strong linear relationship.
01:22 And if the relationship is weak, then the points can vary quite a bit away from the line as they do in this particular.
01:29 Plot and moderate would be something in between those two extremes.
01:35 I would refer to this as a weak relationship.
01:41 And that's because say we pick some value for x, let's say 80, the y values can range from approximately 80 all the way up to almost 150...
