And metallic properties, what is really associated with metallic characteristics is the metallic properties depend on the amount of attraction between the nuclei and the electrons, right? and so up here, they're going to be at least attracted.

Here, your electrons are held very tightly, and so they are not easily going to be bonding with anything, whereas down here they're going to be readily being able to bond.
