(COURSE: REFRIGERATION ENGINEERING)
CAPILLARY TUBE SIZING
INSTRUCTIONS: Develop individually an excel program that computes the length of a capillary tube with conditions prescribed by P13-2. The program must provide a printout containing a problem statement, design conditions, a summary of specifications and other relevant design details.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
P13-2. A capillary tube is to be selected to throttle 0.011 kg/s of refrigerant 12 from a condensingpressure of 960 kPa and a temperature of 35deg C to an evaporator operating at -20deg C.
a) Using Figs. 13-7 and 13-8, select the bore and length of a capillary tube.
b) If the evaporating temperature had been 5deg C rather than -20deg C, would the selection of part (a)be suitable? Discuss assumptions that have been made.
