Create a response to this post; Substance use prevention is a complex strategy that seeks to address the ever-present effect of drug and alcohol misuse in society. Such proactive measure includes various interventions that aim at preventing, intervening, or providing support in stopping drug use. Prevention strategies are divided into three main types and these include primary, secondary, and tertiary, and become an imperative cornerstone in fighting this social risk.
The first type is known as primary preventive working on populations or some particular people before initiating the substance-using phase. Its approach involves running campaigns to educate the public on what is expected of them in preventing the use of drugs among the youth. It also adopts community-oriented programs coupled with stringent control measures on the use of harmful drugs within its territorial limits. They are also involved in informing society about these drugs and discouraging people from using them for the first time (Erku et al., 2021). Drug use is secondly addressed with secondary prevention aimed at turning potential compulsive users into non-dependent people. These comprise elements of early intervention programs, counseling services, and targeted support groups. Through this effort, vulnerable individuals can be reached at a time when their substance intake is not yet full-blown.
