Day one - 1 min (250 mL)
Day two - 2.5 min (500 mL)
Day three - 5 min (750 mL)
Please can you calculate the following:
Calculation:
The heat flow rate (Q-dot) is equal to Q/t, and should be the same for all three days. You measured the time already.
For Q, since there is no phase change, it is simply mc(Tf-Ti). You know the specific heat of water. Take the final temperature, when the water boils, as 100 degrees Celsius. For the initial temperature, the water coming out of your faucet, to be 18 degrees (slightly cooler than room temperature). Convert the three volumes (250 mL, 500 mL, and 750 mL) to mass to obtain the mass of water used. Calculate Q-dot for all three days (Q-dot1, Q-dot2, Q-dot3) and find the average.
