Derive the emf equation of a single phase transformer and hence define voltage transformation ratio, current transformation ratio and turns ratio
Added by Christine C.
Step 1
The instantaneous flux in the core is Φ(t). By Faraday’s law, the induced emf in each winding is e = -N dΦ/dt. Show more…

a) A single-phase, 50 Hz, core type transformer has square cores of 20 cm side. The permissible maximum flux density is 0.5 Wb/m^2. Calculate the number of turns per limb on the High and Low Voltage sides for a 3000/220 V ratio. b) A 30 kVA, single-phase transformer has 300 turns on the primary and 50 turns on the secondary winding. The primary is connected to a 1400 V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate the primary and secondary currents on full-load, the secondary e.m.f, and the maximum flux in the core. c) A single-phase transformer has 600 turns on the primary and 1300 turns on the secondary. The cross-sectional area of the core is 70 cm^2. If the primary winding is connected to a 50 Hz supply at 650 V, calculate the peak flux density and the voltage induced in the secondary.
