What should be a therapist's role in treating a family?
Asma V.
Which therapist would I be following? Horney Adler Fromm Erickson Bandura Buss Thought someone's tendency to be hostile to strangers even without cause stems from the distant past when there was survival value in viewing those outside your tribe or village as enemies who wanted to hurt or plunder you. Experience growing up Being able to form friendships with people or going out on my own but finding it hard to trust others and stand up for my own beliefs and principles. I try to find out what my patient is needing or reinforcing and use that to help him change his behavior. I believe there are meaningful psychological stages from birth to death and that each stage can be completed in ways that make everything afterward either easier or harder. I understand that one of the therapist's roles is to help my patient establish a sense of connection with other people and with the natural world.

Adler's theory emphasizes the role of an individual's feelings of inferiority and their compensatory striving for superiority as the root of neurosis. In contrast, Horney focuses on the anxiety stemming from interpersonal relationships and the resulting neurotic needs that dictate maladaptive ways of interacting with the world.
