Discuss the components of good parenting and supporting parental relationships, then discuss ways that parents can balance their closeness and independence.
00:09
So there are a lot of ways that parents can be good parents.
00:12
There's a lot of components to it, but we'll just highlight a few here.
00:16
So one is to make simple observations.
00:26
And what i mean here is by making observations, we're going to focus on the good and positive behaviors that the child is doing.
00:43
This isn't to say we ignore.
00:45
Or when there's wrongdoing occurring.
00:48
But we don't want to only focus on those negative things and constantly be saying no, we're correcting a child.
00:54
Because if we never point out when they're doing right, they're just going to feel like they can never do any right.
01:00
So you want to make sure you're focusing on that good behavior, making those observations.
01:04
And when they're doing something and behaving in the manner you want them to, that you're praising that as well.
01:13
So another component is to build up with encouragement.
01:16
This leads or piggybacks based off what i was just talking about.
01:29
So build up with encouragement rather than praise.
01:33
So praise is when they are already doing what you expect them to and we praise them for that.
01:40
And this isn't to say we should never praise.
01:43
But we want to build them up with encouragement as well that they can do those things even if they haven't done them already.
01:50
Like if you're talking about a little kid, say, learning how to tie their shoes and they're really frustrated about it...
