Dissociative adsorption.
(a) Oxygen adsorbs dissociately on silver; O2(g) + S O(a). Derive a Langmuir-type isotherm for this reaction (an expression that gives the coverage of adsorbed atomic oxygen as a function of the pressure of oxygen gas.)
(b) The coverage of oxygen atoms on a silver surface was measured at 700 K and 1.0 x 10^(-3) mbar pressure O2(g). To obtain the same coverage at 800 K required raising the pressure to 36 mbar. Estimate the enthalpy of adsorption of oxygen gas on silver.
